• Whittemore-Peterson Institute
  The Whittemore-Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease in Nevada, USA, have made a potential breakthrough and published their amazing findings in October, 2009. They found the XMRV retro-virus present in 95% of ME patients compared to under 4% of the general population. The Scheme is proud to say that our money is going towards replicating these findings in the UK as this discovery raises hopes of a treatment, albeit in years to come. It is still unclear whether XMRV is the cause of ME or is present as a piggy-back virus.

This should lead to the development of a universal "Thumb-Print Test" that can confirm the presence of M.E. and, subsequently, medical treatments to cure or alleviate the effects of the illness.
