How the scheme helps research into ME

May  2007
3rd donation to MERUK – our biggest so far!

Dear Members,

I’m absolutely delighted to report that on behalf of The Vegepa for ME Scheme, I have just made our 3rd donation to ME Research UK – this time for an amazing £5,500!

This brings the total of money donated in our first year to £8,700 and more is being collected every day towards our next donation.

ME Research UK works night and day to help find the causes of ME, to develop effective treatments and ultimately to discover a cure for our devastating illness. Their priorities are for clinical and biomedical studies, to unravel the biology of ME that will point towards therapeutic strategies.

The Vegepa for ME Scheme presented this latest donation at the fascinating 2 day International Conference organised by Invest in ME.  It was enormously  uplifting as we listened spellbound to presentations from the world of ME’s most distinguished experts. An amazing amount of knowledge was presented showing the organic nature of ME and it was great to see so many of the leading researchers into ME all in one room, and all pulling in the same direction.

So, in only our first year, The Vegepa for ME Scheme has gathered some 2,000 Members from 20 different countries (Antilles, Australia, Austria, Canada, Channel Isles, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Malaysia, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, USA and of course GB)!  All of whom regularly order VegEPA and find it helps control some of their ME symptoms.

We intend to spread the word far and wide so as to increase our donations in the future.  If you can help by informing other ME sufferers and organisations about The Scheme then please do so.

Ellen Piro is the President of the Norwegian ME Association and is a great supporter of The Vegepa for ME Scheme. Dr Vance Spence is from ME Research UK.

Dr. Jonathan Kerr uses mass spectrometry and analysis of human and viral gene expression in his work on a diagnostic test which will eventually lead to clinical trials of immunomodulatory drugs, and was presenting at the conference.
